After retirement, the Frosts settled in West Sussex, where John enjoyed
shing, shooting, and country life, becoming a beef farmer. He also
devoted time to writing and public speaking, particularly in connection
with commemorations of the airborne forces. In 1982, he was appointed
deputy lieutenant in West Sussex.
In 1976 Richard Attenborough made the lm ‘A Bridge Too Far’,
which starred Anthony Hopkins as Frost. Frost also acted as military
consultant on the lm. Attenborough invited Frost to the studios to see
a preview. When he arrived he found to his surprise Eamonn Andrews
with his ‘Red Book’ - his was his episode of ‘This Is Your Life’, shown
on 6 April 1977. Among the many guests was Colonel Witzig, whom
Frost had narrowly missed capturing. Click the button below to see the
recording of that episode.
