Life Story
George was the son of Albert Edward and Alice Maud Briggs, of
Plymouth, UK and served with the Royal Berkshire Regiment in
the Second World War.
The 2
nd
Battalion spent the war in India, where it was joined by
the 1
st
Battalion in 1942 and they won several battle honours
including the battle for Imphal and Kohima. It seems that
George was injured or fell ill and was sent to a military hospital,
as the cemetery in which he is buried mainly consists of
casualties from No’s 14 and 150 British General Hospitals
based nearby.
