Joseph was the son of Joseph Emile Caouette, and of Alexina Caouette, of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.

He enlisted on 2nd January 1941 in Toronto, Canada. He was killed during Operation Market Garden

when his Dakota III crashed near Schaarsbergen north of Arnhem, killing the crew. Joseph had a

temporary burial near the crash site before being re-interred after the war in the Oosterbeek War

Cemetery.
