Joseph was the son of William and Lucy Todd of Ancaster, Grantham. He had been born in Blackburn
Lancashire and moved to Ancaster with his family. He married his wife Agnes and they lived together
School at Brauncewell, near Sleaford, not far from his parents in Ancaster. He enlisted with the
Lincolnshire Regiment and was killed in action, likely at the Battle of Cambrai in August 1917 as he is
buried at the nearby cemetery. His grave registration documents records his date of death as the 2nd
September 1917, and his rank as Lance Corporal, but these are adjusted on the rest of his records.
