Joseph Burbidge was born in the village of Sudbrooke in Lincolnshire. He enlisted for military service in

Chesterfield, joining the Lincolnshire Regiment with other local lads. He was killed during the Battle of

Messines in June 1917 and is buried in the nearby CWGC cemetery.
