Tom was the son of Tom Alderman, a blacksmith born in Stathern and his wife fanny. Tom was born in
Melton Mowbray, where his parents had moved after their marriage. He had 3 sisters and a brother,
and his nephew Sydney also loved with them at their home at 6 Queen Street in Melton Mowbray. Tom
was killed in the last month of the war, when the tank he was driving received two direct hits, killing him
instantly. He was rescued from the tank by an injured comrade (Sargent Smith) but there was nothing
they could do and he was given a field burial the following day by a party from his unit.
