Life Story
Thomas was born in 1898 in Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire. His father
was John Boulger (a groom) born 1866 in Kildare in Ireland. He was
working in Melton Mowbray when he met Thomas’s mother Kate (nee
Gray) and they married in 1890 in Melton Mowbray. Thomas had a
number of siblings - John Willie, born in the 4th quarter of 1890, James
Edward, born 1895, George, born 1892 and Dora, born 1899. In the
March 1901 census the family home is recorded as 2 Granby Terrace,
Rutland Street, Melton Mowbray. They later moved to 16 Cottesmore
Avenue, in Melton Mowbray, shown below.
Thomas worked for Edward
Perkins, a greengrocers situated
in the Market Place in Melton
Mowbray. He was the youngest of
the brothers to enlist in the army
and was reported missing in May
1918 following an engagement
21-23rd March 1918.
There is little information on
Thomas. No record is found of
a grave, and Thomas does not
appear on the local war memorial.
The only record currently available is a missing notice in the local paper
from 1918. There is a mention of another brother Hubert, which may
be Thomas, being referred to by his middle name.
