John Clark was stationed at Komani House with his unit as they prepared to deploy as part of

Operation Market Garden. There he met a local girl called Elisabeth and fell in love, marrying on the 3rd

August 1944, shortly before he left. They held their wedding reception at the Dial Hall, also used for

dances and parties with the soldiers. Their wedding car was an army jeep flying the Union Jack,

supplied by his fellow soldiers.
