George was the son of George Austin a labourer ( born 1871 in Melton Mowbray) and his wife Laura,

(born 1872 in Melton Mowbray) . George Henry was born in 1893 in Melton Mowbray and had three

siblings also born in the home town. In March 1901 the census records the family home as 2, Pear

Tree Yard, Melton Mowbray. By April 1911 George was working as a farm labourer and was boarding

at 2, Pear Trees Yard, Timber Hill, Melton Mowbray. He later married Annie, and they had one son -

William George Ernest Austin, born 21st October 1917. He served with the Agricultural Labour Corps

during the war. Sadly, George fell victim to the flu pandemic that hit at the end of the war, and died from

influenza and pneumonia in Ripon Military Hospital, but is also recorded as dying at home.
