Arthur was born in Suffolk and was the son of Robert Andrews who later moved to Belvoir Street,
Melton Mowbray. He was captured by the Germans on 21st March 1918 during the German Spring
Offensive to try and push through from Hindenburg Line, in the vicinity of Saint-Quentin, France. As a
POW he was most likely taken to the German hospital Kriegslazarett 7 at St Quentin, where he had to
have his leg amputated due to wounds sustained. He died 3 weeks later of his injuries and was buried
at Guise French Cemetery. He was aged 30 at the time of his death and left behind a widow who was
living at Banff Villa, Craven Street, Melton Mowbray.
